Cathedral District

The Cathedral District takes its name from the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, whose twin spires have marked this hilltop neighborhood since 1919. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Sioux Falls’ most prominent citizens built their grandest homes here, and many of those Queen Anne and Mediterranean Revival houses still stand today, giving the neighborhood a genuine sense of history rare in a fast-growing city.

Rising nearly 100 feet above downtown, the district offers real panoramic views of the Big Sioux River valley, and its tree-lined streets sit within easy walking distance of downtown Phillips Avenue. It remains one of the most walkable, historically distinctive parts of the city.
